Meet The Baker, Kia!
Hey! My name is Kia and I am the person behind the sweets here at The Sweet Shop SC. I started as a home-based, small batch baker located in Columbia, SC. I have been baking since I was a kid and come from a family that loves sweets. Both of my grandmothers were fabulous bakers. I can still remember sitting at Mama’s kitchen table shelling pecans for her hundreds of nut cakes she would make during the holidays. The sea of cakes were on every surface (counter, dining room table, etc). Now since they have both passed, I have become designated “The Family Baker” and I love this title.
I am the mother of two AMAZING kiddos, Trey (19) and Mikayla (12) and they are my world. I decided they would always have a birthday cake handmade by me, which got me into decorating sweets. Friends saw what I could do and it transformed into me doing cookies and cakes for birthdays, showers and weddings. Then one day while baking cookies for someone, Mikayla said, “Mommy, we should open a bakery.” And that’s how The Sweet Shop SC was born.
My goal is to make high-quality sweets that are full of flavor and have an outstanding presentation. I am often told my sweets are too pretty to eat. I believe things worth celebrating deserves something special and sweet to make it complete. That’s just how I roll!
